Faculty of Law Funding Priorities
Law Student Scholarships
Scholarships fund is to recognize and reward students with superior academic standing. While generous donors have made it possible for the Faculty to distribute close to $500,000 worth of scholarships, bursaries, prizes and awards to students every year, there is still a need for more funding in this area. Additonally, we would like to increase the size and number of scholarships for both the LL.B. and graduate (LL.M.. Ph.D) programs. In particular, we need additonal funds to continue to attract the brightest students to uor graduate programs.
Law Student Bursaries
The Faculty of Law acknowledges that many students are in need of financial assistance to pay the competitive law school’s tuition. While generous donors have made it possible for the Faculty to distribute close to $500,000 worth of scholarships, bursaries, prizes and awards to students every year, there is still a need for more funding in this area. Student bursaries are awarded based on demonstrated financial need of the student.
Indigenous Academic Services Fund (formerly known as the Indigenous Law Program)
The Indiginous Law Program fund is used to support a variety of initiatives related to indigenous students and studies around indigenous issues. The Aboriginal Law Speaker series, and the Kawaskimhon National Aboriginal Moot are examples of the type of activities this fund supports. The Faculty's Indigenous Academic Services (IAS) was implemented in 1991 to welcome and assist Aboriginal students into the Faculty of Law. Aboriginal students, once admitted, are in the regular law program with general category students.
Law Excellence Endowment Fund
This fund is used at the discretion of the Dean and is used for such things as enhancing student programs, meeing emerging prioroties and providing student finiancial aid.
Law Annual Fund
Increasing the size of our Annual Fund account remains one of our top priorities. This is the fund that helps us establish new funding for students, hire new sessional instructors so that we can offer a wide range of practical courses for our students and pay for needed equipment.
Moot Court Competition Fund
The Faculty runs a superb set of voluntary mooting competitions, which provide our students with outstanding skills in advocacy at both the appellate and trial levels and in the international as well as the domestic arena. The skills covered in this program even include negotiation techniques and client counseling strategies. The costs of providing these critical legal skills and allowing the students to demonstrate them in national competitions simply cannot be met out of the faculty budget. We rely on our friends and alumni to continue and develop this crucial aspect of legal education.
Class Reunion Gifts
Joining with former classmates to start a class reunion gift is an excellent way to commemorate your time at the Faculty of Law. Several classes have already organized bursaries to help current students.
Gifts to the Faculty of Law can support a wide variety of initiatives. For more information about development opportunities, please contact:
