Health Law Institute Board

Our Institute is overseen by a Board which now comprises a core consisting of: from the Faculty of Law (the Dean of Law or designate, the Associate Dean (Research) and one other faculty member; from the Faculty of Medicine (the Dean of Medicine or designate); from the Health Sciences Council of the University of Alberta (a designate); such other members as are selected by the Board; and the Executive Director (non-voting).

The Board meets on a quarterly and as required basis. The Boards primary role is to formulate policy and to monitor policy implementation. Specifically, the Board ensures that the annual operations and plans are effective, and that the Institutes research and education activities both reflect the intent of the Alberta Law Foundations mandate and fulfil the requirements of other granting agencies.

See the Board Membership page for the composition of the current Board and profiles of our Board members.

Administration

Institute staff are funded from a variety of sources and, depending upon the source of funding, are responsible for various projects which the Institute undertakes. The day to day operations of the Institute are the responsibility of the Executive Director who is accountable to the board. The Executive Director, Tracey M. Bailey, also oversees the research, educational and editorial work of staff members.

We have also forged associations with researchers, both internal and external to the University of Alberta. These Research Fellows, while not funded through the HLI, work with our staff on occasion to achieve mutually shared goals related to research and education.
