Brent Windwick, B.A. (Hons.), LL.B., LL.M. (Cantab.)

 

Brent Windwick served as the HLI’s Executive Director from October 2000 to June 2003 and is a partner with Field Law LLP. Brent was admitted to the Alberta Bar in 1985 and holds BA (Hons.) and LL.B. degrees from the University of Alberta and an LL.M. degree from Cambridge University. For the past decade, Brent's law practice has been almost exclusively in the health law area, including: advocacy in malpractice litigation, medical products liability litigation, public inquiries and administrative tribunal proceedings; strategic advice on clinical and corporate governance and policy development, patient safety and risk management; health information access and privacy; and health research regulation. Brent was a founding member of the Canadian Bar Association Health Law Section for northern Alberta in 1986, and has served as a member of provincial and national Health Law Section executives since 1989, including a term as National Chair. He is currently is a member of the Privacy Advisory Committee of the Canadian Institutes for Health Research and a member of the Alberta Cancer Board Research Ethics Board.
