challenging career opportunities exist for Aboriginal law school graduates.
Within the Canadian legal community Aboriginal lawyers are employed
as defence counsel, judges, corporate counsel, Crown prosecutors, in-house
legal counsel and legal consultants for Aboriginal government and private
organizations, government policy makers and politicians. Aboriginal
law graduates have gone on to further their education by enrolling in
Masters and Doctorate degree programs as well. To assist interested and qualified Aboriginal students in gaining a legal education, the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta has implemented the Indigenous Law Program. This program, funded by the Alberta Law Foundation, advises prospective students on admission procedures, admissions criteria, offers academic counseling for students enrolled in the LL.B. program, and provides career and employment counseling.
