First Year Resources

Welcome to the Faculty of Law at the University of Alberta! The resources below are intended to provide you with information as you begin your law school journey with us.

The links will become active as information becomes available so please check regularly.

Material Distribution

The Distribution Centre is located on the first floor of the Law Centre room 188. A completed Course Material Order Form will be required when ordering material. This form will be available in hard copy form at the Distribution Centre and also on both the Upper Year & First Year Resources web sites. There is no need to purchase course materials prior to the start of classes.

Material purchased through the Distribution Centre can be returned for a full refund, after the applicable term add/drop deadline (www.registrar.ualberta.ca/ro.cfm?id=297), provided that it is in new, re-saleable condition, accompanied with the original sales receipt. Proof of non-enrollment is required.

Before you come to campus, check out BearsDen – our new student engagement portal! Here you can search the hundreds of registered student groups on campus, check out and RSVP for upcoming events, and meet other students with similar interests.

Communications Policy

The U-Pass
Eligible students will have unlimited access to regular Edmonton, St. Albert, and Strathcona County Transit services for fall and winter terms.  See above for details.

Health and Dental Plan
The new SU Health & Dental Plan is a Students’ Union service that covers things not covered by Alberta Health and Wellness or other provincial plans, and includes prescription drugs, dental care, eye exams, and many other services. For more information, please check out www.ihaveaplan.ca, read the FAQ for more details on coverage, or if you have any further questions you can call the Member’s Service Centre at 1-866-795-4430, open Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
