Steven Penney researches and teaches in the areas of criminal procedure, evidence, substantive criminal law, and privacy and technology. His articles have appeared in the American Journal of Criminal Law, McGill Law Journal, Queen’s Law Journal, Alberta Law Review, Criminal Law Quarterly, Criminal Reports, Health Law Journal, and the Journal of Environmental Law and Practice. He has written several book chapters and is co-editor of Evidence: A Canadian Casebook, 2nd edition (Toronto: Emond Montgomery, 2006).
Before his appointment at the University of Alberta, Professor Penney was Associate Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of New Brunswick. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Western Ontario. He clerked at the Supreme Court of Canada for Mr. Justice Gérard V. La Forest and articled at the Appeals and Criminal Law Policy Branch of the Alberta Department of Justice.
