Graduate Programs

The graduate programs offered by the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta, Canada provide excellent opportunities for your personal, academic, and professional growth, leading to a graduate law degree that will enhance your legal, business, or professional career. The Faculty of Law, University of Alberta is recognized as one of the top Canadian law schools, with excellent physical facilities and the second largest law library in Canada. Our graduate students come from both Canada and countries around the world. Our graduate program is based on rigorous academic training, excellent faculty supervision and mentorship, and an emphasis on building academic and professional opportunities for our graduate students.

We offer two postgraduate law programs, one leading to the degree of Master of Laws (LLM) and the other leading the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). For the LLM program, students may select either the thesis-based LLM or the course-based LLM program. Students are admitted to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR), and degrees are awarded by FGSR; however, students are taught by members of the Faculty of Law and generally do their study and research in the Faculty of Law.
