Making Your Application

To be considered for the LLM or the PhD programs, students must complete the following application process:

1. Apply online.

2. Have the following Academic Documentation sent DIRECTLY from the issuing institution(s) DIRECTLY to the Faculty of Law Admissions Office:

a) Two (2) official and certified true copies of all transcripts (marksheets) from ALL post-secondary institutions (including undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate) in the official language of instruction.

b) English language proficiency test results if applicable.

3. Send the following Supplemental Documentation DIRECTLY to the Faculty of Law Admissions Office:

a) Chronological resume or curriculum vitae describing your academic history, scholarly achievements, awards, publications, employment history and any other information which you feel would be relevant to our assessment of your application.

b) Three (3) original reference forms and letters of recommendation completed and signed by the referees. The reference forms and letters must be submitted directly from the referee to the Faculty of Law Admissions Office.

c) A Statement of Motivation.  Please follow the Statement of Motivation Instruction Form.

d) Your Research Proposal, as follows:

i) Applicants for Course-Based LLM Program (major paper requirement): provide a one-page proposal describing the topic of your major paper;

ii) Applicants for Thesis-Based LLM program (written thesis requirement): provide a two to five page description of your proposed thesis research, including the legal issue(s) involved, your preliminary arguments, and the analytical approach you plan to take.  Your proposal must be supported by footnote references;

iii) Applicants for PhD Program (written dissertation requirement): provide a five to ten page description of your proposed dissertation research, including the legal issue(s) involved, your preliminary arguments, and the analytical methods you plan to use.  Your proposal must be supported by footnote references.
