International Opportunities

The Faculty of Law encourages students to participate in a student exchange program to enrich their overall education experience. Since 2000, our students have studied in Denmark, Norway, Spain, Korea, China, Australia, and Sweden to name just a few. Students are eligible to participate in an exchange in either their second or third year and transfer a maximum of 30 University of Alberta credits towards their JD degree. Students interested in an exchange program are encouraged to start planning early. Information sessions are held each fall and further information is available in the Student Services office and through the University of Alberta International.

Exchange programs are signed agreements between institutions and as a University of Alberta Faculty of Law student, there are numerous destinations from which to choose. For administrative purposes only, exchanges are either administered through the Faculty of Law or the University of Alberta International’s Education Abroad office.

While on exchange, students will continue to pay University of Alberta tuition and fees. There are some scholarships and funding opportunities to support students through the Education Abroad office. Please visit the link below for a list of these awards.

Students planning on participating in an exchange program should make an appointment with Sarah Wolgemuth, Director of Student Services for assistance in determining transfer credit and to view student evaluations of past exchanges. All approval relating to choice of institution and transfer credit is granted by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law.
